T SUPER SCIENTISTS CREATED A BULLET

A bulletproof shirt, the kind that are only seen in comics or movies, became a reality, thanks to research by a team of scientists from the University of South Carolina (USA), China and Switzerland. Brains created cottons resistant to impacts of projectiles, ideal for dangerous cities.

These shirts, unlike the classic bullet-proof vests are comfortable and fit the body of people. The key is boron carbide, the third hardest element of nature, which reinforces the fibers of this super resistant clothing. The material is the same as is used to protect the tanks.
Los científicos realizaron el experimento con camisetas blancas que fueron cortadas en tiras y sumergidas en una solución de boro. Más tarde, fueron retiradas de la solución y se calentaron en un horno. El calor transformó las fibras de algodón en fibras de carbón, las que reaccionaron con el boro y produjeron el carburo de boro.

Sobre sus usos posibles, los investigadores afirmaron que serán capaces de “fabricar armaduras mucho más resistentes, livianas y flexibles usando esta nueva técnica, además de automóviles y aviones más livianos y eficientes”.
